As CranioSacral therapy is extremely gentle and non-invasive, it can be used for people of all ages, from newborns to the elderly.
Early treatment is encouraged as conditions tend to respond quicker the sooner they are treated. Also, as the cranium and body structures are growing, they may adopt a growth pattern which can lead to restrictions in the craniosacral system. While treatment of any pattern is possible at any stage, it proves easier to release restrictions that have not become established over time.
There are many infantile conditions that CranioSacral therapy addresses. Some may be a result of restrictions caused by the compressive pressures of the birth process, by a caesarean section or indeed, the result of a traumatic birth. By correcting problems in the craniosacral system early on in life, development of certain conditions may be avoided later.
A CranioSacral treatment for babies and children will usually last 30 – 40 minutes. It is advisable that a child’s treatment time does not interfere with his / her nap time. Babies can be treated while in the mother’s / father’s arms and while asleep. Children can usually play with a toy or read a book while the therapist is working on them.
